In recent years, the Collective Management sector and the creative community as a whole have been facing an unprecedented challenge in relation to Generative AI, due to its unethical and unauthorized use.
How does unauthorized use of AI threatens creators’ income?
Theft: human-created works are being used to train large language models and AI systems, without transparency, without the consent of their creators and without any remuneration for them.
Unfair competition and Cannibalization: AI-generated artistic products, consisting of perfect imitations of human-created works, are being produced on a massive scale and circulated in the same market from which human creators earn their living, at extremely low or even zero cost.
The phenomenon of replacing human creativity, for example in audiovisual productions, music libraries, and streaming platforms, is beginning to reach alarming proportions with regard to creators’ and artists’ revenues, as well as their future.
International economic studies predict revenue losses ranging from 40% to 60%.
