What is Artificial Intelligence

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence is already transforming the way we create, give out and utilize literary, artistic and musical works,
As a Collective Management Organization (CMO), AUTODIA keeps a close eye on developments and informs creators and rightsholders about the fundamental concepts shaping this new environment.
This section presents the fundamental principles that help clarify the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and intellectual creation.

Artificial Intelligence is a generic term describing computer systems capable of performing tasks that, until recently, required human thought.

 Such tasks include :

·  Voice recognition

·  Image analysis

·  Text understanding and generation

·   Music composition

In simple terms, AI enables systems to “learn” from data and make decisions or produce outputs based on it.

How this works on a basic level

AI function are based on 3 significant elements:

1.       Data – The material from which the system “learns” (texts, images, sounds, musical works, etc.)

2.       Algorithms -  The rules and mathematical methods used to analyze the data.

3.       Computer power – The technological infrastructure that enables the processing of large amounts of information.

The system identifies patterns, recurring structures, and correlations within the data, and can then predict outcomes or generate new content that follows similar patterns.

Difference between algorithms, machine learning and generative AI (GenAI)

  • Algorithm : A set of predefined instructions used to solve a problem
  • Machine Learning : A subcategory of AI in which the system does not simply follow fixed rules, but is “trained” on data and improves through experience
  • Generative Artificial Intelligence : An advanced form of AI capable of creating new content, such as text, image or music.

GenAI does not simply reproduce existing material; it generates new content based on what it has learned from its training data.

Examples of Everyday Use

Artificial Intelligence is already used in:

·       digital assistants

·       music and movies recommendation services

·       automated translation tools

·       applications for music composition and content creation

Many of these applications operate in the background and directly influence the way audiences discover and consume musical works.

Why does Artificial Intelligence affect the field of Creation and Royalties

The creation of works had been considered an exclusively human activity until recently. With the emerge of systems that generate content, new questions arise:

·       Who is considered the creator of a work generated by AI?

·       How are the works used for the training of those systems protected?

·       How is the fair remuneration of creators ensured?

AI does not replace creation, but changes the framework within which it takes place.
