AUTODIA at a conference on Intellectual Property Rights in Syros

Dr. Margarita Panagiotopoulou, General Director of our Society, delivered a speech titled “Collective management of intellectual property rights of composers and songwriters” at a scientific conference held under the general theme, “Practical Issues of Intellectual Property.”

The conference was co-organized on May 1st, 2026, at the Amphitheater of the University of the Aegean in Ermoupoli, Syros, by the Law School of the Greek branch of the University of Nicosia in Athens (UNIC Athens), the University of the Aegean, and the Syros Bar Association.

Ms. Panagiotopoulou discussed the various forms of licensing granted to businesses and user associations across the territory. Her presentation focused on the royalties generated from the public performance, concerts, broadcasting, mechanical reproduction, and online uses of musical works.

Furthermore, her presentation highlighted the rapid progress and development of the Greek Organization in recent years, alongside the impressive 2025 results concerning revenue and royalty distribution to AUTODIA’s creators and rightsholders.

The discussion concerning Collective Management and Law Enforcement was coordinated by Professor Irini Stamatoudi, Director of the Law School of UNIC Athens. The panel also included Mr. Konstantinos Paraschos, Deputy Prosecutor of the Courts of First Instance of Syros, and Mr. Giorgos Babetas, Associate Professor of Democritus University of Thrace and Legal Advisor of the Collective Management Organization (CMO) “GEA”.

The Conference focused on significant developments related to both technological progress and the imperative need for effective protection of authors’ and rightsholders’ rights. The speakers explored these issues with the aim of providing answers to practical questions raised by creators, rightsholders, entrepreneurs, users, lawyers, and judges.

Attendees included public officials, lawyers, judges, presidents of Chambers, entrepreneurs, professors, researchers, and university students.
