“BIEM’s honorable decision for our Organization confirms its international prestige and recognition. At the same time, this decision comes at a critical crossroads for collective management and creators, where we must all join forces with greater strength and determination to protect authors’ rights in the AI era," noted Mr. Glezos.
About BIEM
BIEM (Bureau International des Sociétés gérant les droits d'enregistrement et de reproduction mécanique) is an international organization representing the CMOs that manage mechanical recording and reproduction rights of music. Mechanical rights CMOs exist in most countries of the world and license the reproduction of musical works of all kinds. Their members are composers, songwriters and music publishers and their clients are record companies, producers and other users of recorded music. They also license the mechanical reproduction part of the online exploitation of musical works, including streaming and downloading.
BIEM represents and advocates the interests of its members, particularly in international forums concerning authors’ rights, such as WIPO and UNESCO.
Additionally, BIEM collaborates with international non-governmental organisations, which pursue the same objectives, such as CISAC and GESAC.
