Event on New Developments in Intellectual Property Law

An event on New Developments in Intellectual Property Law was held on 20th May, at the "Alkis Argyriadis" Hall of National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, in the context of the presentation of the Collective Volume "Intellectual Property, Interpretation under Article L 2121/1993" (published by NOMIKI BIBLIOTHIKI), which was edited by the internationally distinguished lawyer at the Supreme Court of Athens and Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Nicosia, Cyprus, Irini Stamatoudi.

The presentation was held under the auspices of the University of Athens and was organized by the Foundation for International Legal Studies, Prof. Elias Krispis and Dr. Anastasia Samara Krispis.

Opening speeches were delivered by the Rector of the University of Athens, Prof. Gerasimos Siassos, the President of the Hellenic Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis, the representative of the Ministry of Culture Dr. Konstantinos Akrivos, the President of the Hellenic Copyright Organisation, Prof. Panagiotis Tsiris, Dr. Anastasia Samara-Krispis and the President & CEO of the "Nomiki Bibliothiki S.A." and Chairman of "OSDEL" (Greek Collecting Society for Literary Works) Adonis Karatzas.

The President of the Parliament made special mention of the editor of the publication Irini Stamatoudi, emphasizing that “the intellectual property sector in Greece has been inextricably linked to her name and many of the innovations of law 2121/93 are due to her”.

The volume was presented by Evangelos Venizelos, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emeritus Professor of Constitutional Law, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Dr. Achilles C. Emilianides, President of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, Dean of the School of Law, University of Nicosia.

Three panels followed, coordinated by Ms. Stamatoudi who addressed key questions on the subject of each speaker - columnist in the Collective Volume, with the participation of reputable lawyers from academia, as well as the collective management sector.

Among the topics presented and of great concern to the legal community today, due to the speed of developments in the market, but also due to the plethora of different approaches, are the new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, NFTs, Blockchain, 3D Printing and Immersive Performances, as well as new uses, new business models and platforms' responsibility in the streaming music and audiovisual market.

The event was also attended, among others, by the MP for Athens' 1st Electoral District with New Democracy, Angelos Syrigos, Associate Professor of International Law and Foreign Policy at the Department of Panteion University, the Dean of the Law School, Professor Konstantinos Christodoulou, executives of CMOs, such as the Society of music authors and rightsholders "AUTODIA", teaching and reasearch academic staff and legal scholars.
