The streets of Thessaloniki and Macedonia are preparing to welcome 15,000 runners, in the biggest sporting event of the year for Northern Greece. The 19th ALEXANDER THE GREAT Marathon – bwin is coming on Sunday, April 6th to offer the most beautiful moments as a celebration of sports with a global character, to send strong messages by uniting the historical past of Macedonia with the present and the future, but also to constitute for another year a foundation of social contribution, creating multiple benefits for the wider region, at an athletic, social, environmental and tourist-economic level. In detail, the racing program includes the Marathon course (start time: 07:30, starting point: Pella), as well as the 10,000m Health Course. (start time: 08:30, starting point: Ampelokipi Municipal Stadium) and the 5,000m Health Course. (start time: 12:30, starting point: Thessaloniki City Hall).
Apart from the official competition program, the 1,000m Race for Primary School Students will be held (starting time 08:30, starting point: Aristotelous Square). In addition, a rich program of side events has been planned for another year, transforming the 19th ALEXANDER THE GREAT Marathon – bwin into a great celebration for the whole family. In addition, the established Alexandria Peace Race will take place on the eve of the games, on Saturday (05/04), covering the distance from Ancient Pella to the beach of Thessaloniki, passing through 13 stations, symbolizing man’s effort for physical and spiritual fulfillment and his eternal anxiety for the good of peace and dialogue between peoples.
In parallel with the "Marathon of History", this year's Panhellenic Road Championship for the Disabled will be held by the National Athletic Federation of Persons with Disabilities (EAOM-AmeA) with the support of the Organizing Committee. The organizers also announced that 1,500 additional places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to those who come to the Registration Center, which will operate at Pavilion 2 of TIF-HELEXPO from Thursday (03/04) to Saturday (05/04), from 10:00 to 19:00.
